As soon as I got a call from my in-laws, I had to reach quickly as my father-in-law was having trouble breathing despite being on an oxygen concentrator. None of us realized that the end was an hour away. When I rushed there with no delay, my first sight caught the faces of my husband and brother-in-law who were nearby his bedside helplessly solacing and encouraging him to breathe. We all were assembled and ready to act. We were expecting wellness from his side because I have never seen him losing his enthusiasm for life, his smile was eternal.

He loved to play the flute so he was trying to match his flute to the tune of Dilip Kumar and he did his best but failed to make a tune. He was an epitome of discipline, never recline on the bed. He was fond of getting early as if he has to deliver a lecture to his students, but with this thought, the nurse in attendance shouted that the oximeter got empty and he was gone. We all were left just with his memories. We had no words. Unfortunately in covid times, there is no shoulder to cry on even social distancing has frozen emotions of people, badly leaving us lonely. We were aware that we are not alone who are facing this type of despair and distress.

The stories of despair and loneliness are numerous. The number of deaths every day conveyed the message that people around the world are terrified. Many leave behind struggle, agony, everlasting memories of despair, heartbreak, and emptiness. The unexpected deaths snatched the smiles and peace of the bereaved family members. Hope this night will have bright and cool dawn that will bring love and peace and soon end the unexpected death of our kith and kin.
